How to Keep Your Car Cooler This Summer

Summer is here and it is hot and humid outside. United Auto Care is going to list some tips below that will help you keep your car cooler when it is parked in the summer heat. Nothing is worse than sliding into a vehicle that is scorching hot. There are ways you can keep the interior temperature cooler so the AC does not have to work as hard to make the inside comfortable. We are going to list the first tip here, and this is the most important one: Never keep an animal or child inside your parked vehicle in the summer. Even with these tips, the interior can get fatally hot.

Use a Sunshade

One of the first things you can do is to put a sunshade in the windshield to prevent the sun from beating through it. These shades are quick and easy to put up and are held in place by the visors. Once you get back into the car, pulling the shade down is a snap.

Use Window Shades

You can also use window shades that are held to the windows by suction cups. These shades not only keep the interior of your vehicle cooler but also help to keep you cooler when the sun is beating through the side windows. The shades are particularly important for babies and children.

Cover the Steering Wheel

Few things are worse than touching the steering wheel after it has been sitting in the sun. It gets so hot that you can barely use it. Before you get out of your car after you have parked it, throw a hand towel over the steering wheel to shade it and keep it cool.

Park in the Shade/Garage

Anytime you can, park in the shade or park in a public garage. Also, park in the garage when you are at home. Keeping your vehicle out of the sun will keep it cooler on the inside. You can also use a car cover, but this will take time to put on and take off.

Crack the Windows

Always leave all of the windows cracked slightly to allow the hot air to escape from inside the vehicle. It’s important to reiterate again, however, that even with the windows cracked, you should not keep an animal or child inside your vehicle.

Open the Car Doors

Finally, when you get back to your car, open all of the doors and wait a few minutes before you slide into the driver’s seat and before your passengers get in. This allows some of the hot air to escape from the inside of the vehicle.
