ASE Certification
In order to receive ASE certification, an auto mechanic must have at least two years experience working in the auto service and repair industry. The mechanic must also be able to identify his or her specialty and pass an exam within that specialty. Mechanics can seek certification in multiple specialties, so you might see a shop that has the ASE-certified blue and white logo outside even though it offers several automotive services and repairs.
In due time, a mechanic can receive ASE Master Certification. A mechanic who carries this certification has tested on and passed numerous subjects. Mechanics who carry ASE Master Certification handle tougher automotive maintenance repairs, such as working on school and transit buses, working in auto body and collision repair, becoming engine machinists, specializing in medium and heavy-duty trucks, or working with truck equipment.
