United Auto Car only employs ASE-certified technicians and there’s a good reason why: We want your vehicle fixed right the first time as much as you do. Automobiles began as a luxury over a century ago but they’ve become a necessity in modern times. You rely on your vehicle every day, which is why being an ASE-certified technician matters.
First Things First
First, however, let’s discuss what an ASE-certified technician is. To assist automobile owners throughout the United States, in June of 1972, a nonprofit organization called the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence was formed. The ASE, as it’s known by, is located in Leesburg, Virginia, and its mission is to ensure the highest “… quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals.”
Today, ASE certification is considered the automotive industry standard of excellence, and automotive technicians who pass their certification exams are considered experts in their field. In order to become an ASE-certified technician, they must possess a commitment to:
No automotive technician can become ASE certified without these qualities and skills and this, in a nutshell, is why it matters. Wouldn’t you rather take your vehicle in for maintenance and repairs and know someone committed to receiving ASE certification is working on it?
ASE Certification
In order to receive ASE certification, an auto mechanic must have at least two years experience working in the auto service and repair industry. The mechanic must also be able to identify his or her specialty and pass an exam within that specialty. Mechanics can seek certification in multiple specialties, so you might see a shop that has the ASE-certified blue and white logo outside even though it offers several automotive services and repairs.
In due time, a mechanic can receive ASE Master Certification. A mechanic who carries this certification has tested on and passed numerous subjects. Mechanics who carry ASE Master Certification handle tougher automotive maintenance repairs, such as working on school and transit buses, working in auto body and collision repair, becoming engine machinists, specializing in medium and heavy-duty trucks, or working with truck equipment.
You might not need an ASE Master Certification mechanic for your car, truck, or SUV, but it’s nice to know the mechanic working on your vehicle has been certified by an organization dedicated to protecting America’s automotive consumers.
